My name is Alden and I love mud! Our family started going on Family Fun Runs last year. We put ideas for where we wanted to go onto scraps of paper and put them into a big bowl. Every night we would take turns and draw one piece of paper and that would be where we went for our Fun Run. Sometimes it would be to the park. Sometimes it would be to get hot chocolate. Sometimes it would be to visit family or friends. We really like running together!
My mom ran in a mud run and thought it was really fun so she got the idea to build one! It seems like we have been building it for a really long time. I love working outside and making trails. I have learned how to use some really cool tools from my Uncle and my cousins. I like to look at the pictures we took when we started to see how much work we have done!
There is only one week left until the S'Klallam Warrior Mud Run and we are really excited. I want to show the Mud Run to my friends! Look for me at the finish line - I get to pass out the medals!
"MUD RUN" - Hearing those words, it sounds like you are just running through a track with mud all over it, doesn't it? Well, that's not true! The Mud Run is full of super amazing obstacles, hills, trenches, trails and lots more! But I'm not here to tell you what a Mud Run is. You should sign up and find that out for yourself. I want to share with you a few things about our journey, one that turned just an idea into something amazing for so many people.
Putting together a Mud Run is not an easy job! It has taken a lot of time and a lot of hard work by lots of people. This muddy creation has brought my own family closer together. We spend hours working on it - but I don't want to call it work, because it has been so much fun to spend so much time with my family and our friends. Not only do we get to make the course but I get to spend time walking and running with my mom and my brother. I feel healthier and guess what? I have not only gotten stronger but I have also lost a few pounds - 8 pounds in the last four months!
I have the privilege of watching my mom make one of her dreams come true. She gets to spend time with her family, run with me and my brother to train for the Junior Warrior Course, build a fun track AND she gets so excited to see other people walking or running to 'get ready' for the Mud Run. My mom works for the Tribe, raises two kids and a dog and didn't know anything about creating a Mud Run. Usually people who do things like this are carpenters, engineers, construction workers - but my mom had the courage to create the S'Klallam Warrior Mud Run, even though she usually just works on computers and does mom stuff.
I also have the honor of knowing that I have helped create the Mud Run - how many kids do you know that can say that?
And now - My TOP TEN things that I love about the S'Klallam Warrior Mud Challenge:
10) Getting stronger by training with my mom and brother
9) The Cargo Net Climb
8) Being in the parade to pass out flyers for the Mud Run
7) The Tire Wall Climb
6) Spending extra time with my family to work on the course
5) Spending time outside
4) The Mud Trench
3) Getting MUDDY
2) Helping other people to get healthy and be active
1) THE MUD SLIDE!
We have worked really hard to create the S'Klallam Warrior Mud Run for our entire Community - We really hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
